Toggle single-click to open setting

(Article ID: 001574)
Summary

By default Windows is set up to click once to select and double-click to open an item. This behavior can be changed so that an item can be opened with a single click; you only have to point to an item to select it.

Step-by-step instructions

To change this behavior, do the following:

  1. Go to the Folder Options control panel applet (Start>(Settings>)Control Panel>Folder Options).
  2. Change the setting in the "Click item as follows" area to:
    • "Single-click to open an item (point to select)" for single-click mode.
    • "Double-click to open an item (single-click to select)" for the default mode

  3. Click Apply.
  4. Click OK to close the Folder Options control panel applet.
