Disable Windows XP Tour

In order to disable the Windows XP tour notification, do the following:

  1. Start Registry Editor (Start>Run>regedit).
  2. Navigate to the following key:
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Tour.
    NOTE: HKCU is the abbreviation for HKEY_CURRENT_USERS.
  3. Look for a value called RunCount.
    NOTE: If this value does not exist, do the following:
    1. Click on Edit.
    2. Click on New.
    3. Select DWORD Value.
    4. Type RunCount and press ENTER.
      NOTE: Capitalization does count!

  4. Double click on the RunCount value.
  5. Type 0 and press ENTER.
  6. Navigate to the following key:
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Applets\Tour.
    NOTE: HKLM is the abbreviation for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  7. Look for a value called RunCount.
    If this value does not exist, do the following:
    1. Click on Edit.
    2. Click on New.
    3. Select DWORD Value.
    4. Type RunCount and press ENTER.
      NOTE: Capitalization does count!
  8. Double click on the RunCount value.
  9. Type 0 and press ENTER.

This will cause the Windows XP tour balloon to appear momentarily when a new profile is started but it will either disappear on its own or when the mouse cursor moves over it.
