Minimize Outlook XP to the system tray

Outlook 2002 (Outlook XP) can be set to minimize to the system tray. In order to enable this feature a setting has to be changed in the registry. Do the following:

  1. Open Registry Editor (Start>Run>regedit).
  2. Navigate to the following key:
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Preferences.
    NOTE: HKCU is the abbreviation for HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
  3. Locate the value MinToTray.
    NOTE: If this value does not exist, do the following:
    1. Click on Edit.
    2. Click on New.
    3. Select DWORD value.
    4. Type MinToTray and press ENTER.
      NOTE: Capitalization does count!

  4. Double click on the MinToTray value.
  5. Type 1 to enable this functionality and press ENTER.
  6. Close Registry Editor.
